foreign [Music] this is dory's story in all of our years of horse rescue it has to be one of the most complicated painful and heartbreaking stories her story actually sadly started long before we met her but for us it started on a Sunday afternoon we got an urgent phone call saying we had to rescue a horse now we have a long waiting list of horses to rescue due to the poor Animal Welfare here but as our funds and space is limited we sadly can't help all of them but this particular case was urgent dory's story has so many points not just about the obvious neglect and suffering but the deeper problems of the lack of knowledge and ignorance we want to use her Legacy to try and promote and fight for change Dory was kicked in the face by another horse five years ago or at least this is what we were told but the truth of how it happened actually isn't even important the main point is that Dory was left without any form of treatment she was left with a broken jaw and burst eye to fend for herself left inside a stable for five years only coming outside to have new shoes put on every few months she was no longer rideable so she had no purpose outside the stable here is the most shocking part the people who did this to her were not bad people in fact they were nice people we were even invited inside the house given homegrown food and drinks while tears were shed over saying goodbye to Dory as we were about to take her away from them the truth is this is an elderly couple and they did what they thought was right after they ended up with a broken horse they kept the stable clean they gave her fresh water new shoes and food everything they were taught to do for a horse is some unbelievable reason they were just too proud to ask for help as their beloved horse was fading the Skin and Bones in front of them due to her inability to eat properly with a broken jaw the combination of inedible food lack of movement lack of mental stimulation her condition declined so much that she had another accident something we don't know the full details of we do know that it aggravated her jaw making it much worse making it almost impossible for her to eat anything for this her condition then dropped very quickly and finally her owners realized they needed help so this is how she eventually came to us she was unable to eat anything her mouth opened with sores bleeding she had a heart murmur blind infected eye she was skin and bones but she had a spirit and a fight that was so powerful was unbelievable [Music] we honestly expected to rescue her just to bring her to us for instant Humane euthanasia just to end her suffering but as soon as we met her and we saw her fight to survive we chose to give her a chance teamed up with the best vets on the island Around the Clock volunteers we tried everything we could if she still had hope and so did we [Music] we tried every type of treatment all of the Care and every different type of food consistency possible But ultimately it still took more energy for her to eat than what she could actually get from the food that she could get inside we'd hoped that with intervention of special food such as power shots or soupy consistencies maybe she could gain just enough strength to withstand surgery she kept fighting and trying and even after everything she'd suffered through she would greet you with a happy Winnie she continued to try and eat even when she was lifted off the ground by the volunteers she continued to eat while the volunteers sat with her for 24 hours a day we monitored everything that went in we were there to keep her safe clean and comforted we watched as she fought for every single mouthful we watched the energy and the struggle just to take one bite but in the end Dory could not win this battle she just could not get enough energy from the food that she could get inside so we made the hardest decision we wanted to end any more suffering for her dory's story did something amazing she brought a community of people together to fight harder for what is right to fight for justice for animals to fight to educate and share knowledge we sat around her as she was sent over the Rainbow Bridge crying not only for her but all for the millions of animals suffering due to neglect and ignorance they need us they need you please join our journey for justice help us fight help fight for dory's Story please follow our social media pages and help our following grow so we can become big enough just to get a bigger voice so people can listen Dory fought for everything and now it's our turn she made her Mark in this world we just wish we could have saved her earlier but her story will help us save so many more and help us get to the next horse just in time she will live on with us she crossed that Rainbow Bridge feeling loved and safe and worth for the very first time in her life [Music] foreign
